This is a “ghost sign” for Nabisco Uneeda Biscuits that’s painted on the rear of the building at the southwest corner of Jackson Boulevard and Wells Street in Chicago.

This photo was shot from the elevator of the Trader’s Self-Park Wells Street entrance.  I’ve parked in this garage for many years and I’ve often thought I should take a photo of this sign before it fades away.

For more on ghost signs around Chicago, check out this site at The Art Institute of Chicago– it’s a great collection of what you’ll see around the city if you look closely.

Fireworks at Arlington Park

To say we had a busy Fourth weekend would be an understatement.

We started on Saturday with a day of racing and fireworks at Arlington Park, followed by outdoor work on Sunday.  On Monday, we started with breakfast at Village Grill of Arlington and then walked in the Arlington Heights Parade with the Metropolis Performing Arts Centre. Afterwards, we walked to Peggy Kinnane’s for a post-parade refreshment and then lunch at Superdawg Wheeling.  The evening of the Fourth found us walking up Central Road to watch the fireworks at the Mt Prospect Lions’ Club festival at Melas Park.

And that was just the beginning.

I got back on my road bike and made it through the Busse Woods trail in record time on Tuesday morning, and it seems the rest of the week is going to shape up just as busy.

Happy Fourth, everyone!

The crabtree in front of our house goes into full bloom for about a week each Spring. This year it just happened, indicating a late Chicago Spring.

Now we just need the temperatures to start rising…

Lisa received her M.Ed at UIC recently– a cause for much celebration here!

We made an evening of the event, heading to Greektown for dinner after the commencement ceremony.

(My hosting provider had some issues this week, which in turn caused problems for my MovableType installation. While working on the blog I found a bunch of old entries that were never published. Here’s one from October 23, 2005.)

Lisa and I went up to Madison for the weekend to see her brother. We got to see the Badgers beat the Purdue Boilermakers in a pretty exciting game.

We also saw Blues Traveler and Carbon Leaf at the Barrymore Theatre that evening. Add a little Ian’s Pizza and it was a great day!
